Classes

I am available for private and semi-private lessons, so feel free to contact me if you have questions, and I am currently looking for studios in the South end to teach weekly classes in, but while that’s in progress, I am working on an upcoming workshop series in Seattle that I am SUPER excited about… here are the details for that:

*********note: This series is the last series until Springtime!******

I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to stop teaching my classes after this series, until the Spring. So, if you wanna come play with me, you better sign up now! I’d love to have you there!!
This last series begins this Monday the 14th!
I want to take the Winter off, do some recharging and work on some other projects. I am still available for private lessons here and there, however, so shoot me an email if you are interested.
There is no pre-registration price reduction for this series, so you can sign up anytime ($50 for 4-weeks), or just drop in for the $15 drop-in price. I know 9-10 is a little late for some of us on a Monday night, but the classes are fun and funky and I cover a lot of material in the 4-week series, trying to make it worth your time!

What is ‘Fusion Belly Dance’??

Fusion can mean many things to many people.  I like the vagueness of the word…it leaves alot of room to experiment and find your voice.  To me, it is mixing different styles and genres of music and dance into the dancer’s own individual interpretation and expression of their art form.  My own personal stylization, or Fusion, is a mix of Tribal Fusion, HipHop bits I love to use, and something I call’gooey-gothic’, which is something I’ve sort of created over the last year of performing in MECHANISMUS, an Industrial Art & Music sho

About the workshop:

We will be jumping down the rabbit hole of ‘Fusion Belly Dance’ each week, where I will share the foundations of my favorite moves, explore stylization, and touch on subjects like; musicality in dance, and intent in performance.  I hope to challenge and inspire  my students to think outside the belly dance box and discover your own groove, with exercises in breaking the rules, listening to your body, and increasing your intuition.

This is an intermediate-to-advanced class focusing on my own funky stylization.  This is treated like an intensive and we will be moving fairly quickly.  I won’t be teaching any ATS or Cabaret, so it is essential that the students already have a basic knowledge of belly dance mechanics as taught in some of the more traditional disciplines, so we can move beyond the basics and get to the juicy stuff.  There are many wonderful teachers to learn from first to build a solid foundation.  Essentially, I want you to know the rules before I tell you to break them!

Hope to see you there!!  ~medea
