Classes

COMING SOON!!!

Fusion Belly Dance with Medea!

When?  TBA

Where? TBA

Yes, one of these days I will find the right location and start it up again.  At the moment, however, things are still up in the air.  I will update this page as soon as I land somewhere!

I am also currently preparing my new apartment for some small, private lessons.  I will be able to accommodate 1-3 students at a time and prices vary.  Contact me at medea@sisterserpentine.com to schedule a private session!

In the meantime, please check out my shows and videos (most of which are on my MySpace profile) so you can see exactly what you’re gettin into!

I am not exactly a conventional belly dancer.  I know a very limited amount of American Tribal Style belly dance as taught by Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly Dance, and while most of my study has been in the Tribal Fusion realm, I don’t consider myself strictly that style either.

What I do is literally a fusion of many things, so if you’re looking for the basics of ATS, or the classics of Cabaret, I would suggest checking out some of the other amazing dancers in the area for that.

So what do I do in my classes, then?  Well, I like to throw some Yoga at you to get ya all stretched out, work on dance posture, go into some bits of ATS form & Tribal Fusion movement, add some poppin-n-lockin to funk it up, and then encourage a lot of free movement to create a freer format, in the hopes to inspire you to use your own interpretation.  So, if that sounds good to you, come give it a shot!

Basically, I will be covering many of the things I’ve learned in the classes and workshops I’ve taken, plus a little of my own technique.  It is a multi-level class, so it will cover some of the basics for those unfamiliar with belly dance as well as add some more challenging bits for the more experienced dancer.

Cost? 10$/student/class–for a 1 1/2 hr class

Attire? What to wear: Anything you’d wear to a yoga class, plus maybe a hip scarf.  We will open and close class with some stretches and Yoga asanas, so a skirt may get in the way, so I suggest stretch pants or melos and a tank top, sports bra, or fitted t-shirt.  Tassle belts, fringe belts and coin belts may help with seeing your smaller hip movements, but if noisy and jingly can be distracting to the class.  So, a small hip scarf works best, I think.

Also, you might want to bring a yoga mat and water is a MUST!

I hope to see you there!

Namaste!
